Massage Therapy

Alternative medicine employs many hands-on therapies and modalities, including massage therapy, aromatherapy and reflexology. These ancient therapies date back over thousands of years and can help to improve health, relieve stress, promote relaxation and prevent disease.

Massage is now defined as the scientific manipulation of soft tissues of the body for the purpose of normalizing those tissues. It consists of manual techniques (using primarily the hands, forearms and elbows) that apply fixed or movable pressure while holding or moving the body.

Massage techniques affect the musculoskeletal, circulatory/lymphatic, nervous and other systems in the body to aid it's ability to heal itself, and are aimed at increasing health and well-being.

"Healing Hands" Massage Treatment

Swedish Massage is the main form of Traditional European Massage and is probably the most widely practiced method in Western countries.

Swedish massage uses a system of long gliding strokes, kneading and friction techniques on the more superficial layers of the muscles, generally in the direction of the blood flow toward the heart because there is an emphasis on improving blood flow to the soft tissues and is sometimes combined with active and passive movements of the joints.

Swedish treatments promote general relaxation, improve circulation and range of motion, and to relieve muscle tension.

"Deep Tissue / Sports " Massage Treatment

Deep Tissue work releases chronic patterns of muscular tension using slow strokes, direct pressure or friction directed across the grain of the muscles employing fingers, thumbs or elbows.

It is applied with greater pressure to deeper layers of muscle, and with greater specificity than Swedish Massage, which is why it is called deep tissue massage.

In many areas of the body, the muscles are arranged in layers and sometimes the deeper muscles need to be worked on. Deep tissue massage techniques are designed to reach these muscles or the deeper portions of thick muscles.

"Desert Aromatherapy" Massage Treatment

Aromatherapy uses essential oils and hydosols (from plants). We absorb them through our sense of smell by inhalation and by applying them to the skin. Essential oils can permeate the skin and are then carried via the blood stream throughout the body to strengthen and heal internal systems.

A full body massage is a pampering, relaxing and calming experience. It can also be very therapeutic and can help ease sore muscles and a tired back.

Depending on the essential oils used, a massage can also be very invigorating and energizing, dispelling tension and restoring well-being.

"Cranio Sacral Therapy"

Is a gentle hands-on treatment that is used to evaluate and enhance the craniosacral system to activate the body's natural healing mechanisms.
CST involves the application of very light pressure applied through the hands to the cranium, sacrum and other appropriate parts of the the body  to treat areas of imbalance. CST is used for treating headaches, hormonal issues, fatigue, insomnia, past trauma and injuries to the body.

Integrative Therapy

Integrative Therapy is a method  of bodywork that blends CranioSacral Therapy, Polarity, Reiki and Aromatherapy together for a balancing, serene and healing experience.

Reiki Therapy is a gentle, non intrusive method of hands on healing. Reiki is based on the the theory of universal energy.

This energy radiates in and around the body, but can become blocked through physical or emotional trauma, which may result in ill health. If emotional or physical blocks are removed, the recipient can return to to an optimal sense of well-being.  Reiki is advocated for clearing the mind, releasing stress , emotional blocks and reducing related pain.

Foot Reflexology Treatment

Foot Reflexology is the application of pressure over nerve endings in the feet to revitalize and stimulate the body's natural healing powers.

The theory is that the body is divided into 10 zones or energy channels, known as meridians with the five zones on each side, running from the feet to the head and down the arms to the hands.

Every organ and body part lies along one or more of these zones and the foot map is used to locate reflex points. It improves circulation, helps elimination of waste products, revitalizes and induces relaxation.
